A little about the ranch
Welcome to The 6 Chicken Ranch Candy Company! We're Jack and Lisa Legg, proud owners and the faces behind every batch. After many successful years owning and operating a sporting goods store in Sweet Home, Oregon, we retired — only to quickly realize we had far too much time on our hands. So we unpacked our freeze dryer, fired it up, and Jack named it a special name to surprise Lisa, “The 6 Chicken Ranch”! And a sweet new adventure had begun. We started sharing small batches of freeze-dried candy with friends around town, and the reactions were priceless — people couldn't get enough. That excitement and encouragement from our community inspired us to take the leap, and on July 11, 2022, The 6 Chicken Ranch Candy Company officially opened for business.
What started as a small kitchen experiment has grown into a full-time labor of love. Today we run three freeze dryers out of our cottage kitchen in Madison, SD, crafting freeze-dried candies, fruit, ice cream, and more. The same attention to detail we brought to retail for 30 years carries into everything we make — our kitchen is kept spotlessly clean, and every batch is taste tested before it's ever packaged.
